Allan has spent over fifty years in the field of accounting. He articled with and was a partner with the chartered accounting firm of BDO Ward Mallette where he serviced a variety of clients including several not-for-profit organizations. Later he managed the firm's Human Resources Unit. He resigned from the firm in 1986 to start his own career counseling firm where he also assisted individuals and couples with financial budgeting.
Subsequently he held several accounting positions with not-for-profit companies including housing cooperatives and AIDS service organizations. He underwent a heart by-pass operation in 1993. During this time he withdrew from membership as a chartered accountant. After a busy ten years as Finance Manager for the Morgentaler Clinic, Allan retired in June 2012 and moved from Toronto to Halifax with his partner Edgar.
Professionally and personally Allan has been attracted to organizations that contribute to society's well-being. After three years of recharging from his busy work life he felt ready to become involved in a worthwhile endeavour where he could both learn and make a contribution. ILNS provides that opportunity.
His current interests include genealogy, keeping fit at the gym, and learning Gaelic. He has two adult children living in Toronto.
