Volunteering

Independent Living Nova Scotia (ILNS) is always looking for people who want to make a contribution. As an organization that supports persons with disabilities to live independently, ILNS welcomes volunteers who want to be a part of that support network. We have a number of different activities for volunteers at ILNS; for example,
• Helping with programs such as our ACEE program for youth with disabilities

• Conducting workshops

• Giving leadership by serving on the board of directors or advisory committees

• Occasional office tasks like helping with newsletter mailings

• Planning and co-ordinating programs and activities

• Providing peer support

• Helping with fundraising

Each position not only contributes to supporting persons with disabilities, but also gives volunteers the chance to develop skills and gain experience. Many of our volunteers are students in high school, college and university who want to gain valuable experience and enhance their skills, while contributing to the community. Last year 30 volunteers contributed about 800 hours of time and energy to Independent Living Nova Scotia—that’s nearly the hours worked by a half-time staff person. Our consumers benefit from the generosity and energy of volunteers. And our volunteers benefit from knowing that their work is contributing to the goal of Independent Living for persons with disabilities. It’s a goal that we pursue with great enthusiasm. If you share that enthusiasm and that goal, contact us. Your volunteer position is waiting. Click here to download the application. Please complete it and email to info@ilns.ca , or print and fill it in and mail to the address on our home page. Please contact us if you wish more information.
